Safe-to-Spend Budgeting Tool

Built an interactive calculator and responsive dashboard that turns financial inputs into a live safe-to-spend result.

2026

Why I built this

I kept wondering how much money I could actually spend after setting aside money for bills, taxes, and savings. I wanted one simple answer instead of doing the math over and over.

Tools I used

React · TypeScript · Git · GitHub · Vercel

What I did

  • Built a calculator that uses total balance, taxes, bills, expenses, and savings goals to show how much is left to spend.
  • Connected the calculator and dashboard so changing a number updates both views at the same time.
  • Tested unusual situations, including when expenses are higher than the available balance.

What this shows

I can turn a money question into a simple tool that gives someone a clear answer they can use.

What I learned

I learned that getting the calculation right is only part of building a financial tool. The answer also has to be easy to understand.

What I will do next

I will add saved history, recurring bills, changing income, and monthly spending guidance so the tool becomes something people can return to over time.
